Loquacious Shaw

Shaw's language is absolutely exploding. When I take a few minutes to sit down, say a word carefully and show him the corresponding object, he will pick up a new word almost instantly. Last week he learned apple, yes, bye bye, car, tweet tweet, snack, squirrel (and probably a few I'm forgetting). One day I called Brian on speakerphone in the car. Shaw heard Brian's voice and chanted "Dada, Dada, Dada" for several minutes.

To Shaw, there is a time and place for everything. He has a plan. If one of his brothers wants to hug and kiss right now and that is not in Shaw's plan, he has no problem letting his brother know. If we walk by a window without stopping, Shaw will point vehemently at the window, shout "Car! Car!" until we go back and he'll screech if we don't do it fast enough.

Shaw will play on his own for 10-15 minutes at a time. He likes tupperware, blocks, cars, opening and closing doors and drawers, looking out the window, and trying to climb any kind of step or stool. He's still smiley and loves new faces, and when he knows he's getting into something that he's not supposed to do he giggles loudly and does it anyway.
