Fabulous Number Five

The boys are growing, quickly! This month the little ones are 5 months and Beckett is 5 years old. We have had some great adventures to Orlando, Boston and Connecticut and finally feel like we're mobile as a family of 5.

Crosby, aka Grand Master Cros. Loves his Mama -- so much so that he's perfected a stink eye look. When someone else is holding him, watch out! He'll lean toward me and look at me so hard that he doesn't even blink. It's the "Come Get Me NOW" look. He is often serious but when he giggles it's infectious.

Beckett calls Crosby "Kiss Me Cros." This week Crosby started reaching out to grab faces and yesterday he got a good grip on Shaw's hair. He watches Shaw intently when they are eating in their high chairs. His favorites are banana and sweet potatoes; peaches are acceptable but not a huge hit. He dislikes rice cereal.

Crosby is rarely still. He's just discovered his toes -- because before now he was rarely on his back! He has been rolling (to the right) for a couple weeks. When he rolls off the blanket or mat we say he's gone off the grid. At bedtime tonight he did a spontaneous bridge pose (for all you yogis out there).

Shaw, aka ShawBurger. He's our social butterfly, a smiley baby. Faces make him happy -- even his own. He loves to hold both feet while lying on his back and has just started to roll to the left. Just this morning he grabbed his toes while in the high chair and was chewing on them in between bites of sweet potato. He hasn't met a food he doesn't like. Beckett calls him "Sweet Shaw."

Shaw loves to play with Beckett's shiny, straight hair. He runs his hands through it and Beckett laughs and Shaw laughs. When he sees Crosby, he smiles and sometimes giggles. They've just started noticing each other, but Shaw definitely recognized and smiled at Crosby first.

A few nights ago, Brian was holding Shaw across the room. He started playing Peek-a-Boo, looking to me and then turning away. At first we thought it was just a fluke but after about 5 times, I said "Peek-a-Boo!" when he looked at me and he kept doing it. He knew it was a game and loved it!

Beckett, aka B. Being five really suits Beckett. He's confident, creative, independent and has a funny, playful side to him. He finished preschool in May and is ready for Kindergarten, which starts in August.

If the house is very quiet, you'll find Beckett doing one of his art projects or reading in his room. Lately he has had lots and lots of ideas about what he wants to create -- and it almost always involves scissors and tape. I find little paper creations all over the house. Flags, drawings, pictures for Crosby and Shaw, small books he's made... you name it, Beckett has made it.

Beckett has always loved his family and our new additions have only benefitted from his adoration. He's a loving big brother, often telling the boys, "I'll protect you." He gives them kisses and hugs, holds them, makes them laugh and sings to them. Being a big brother is a role he was made for.

These boys are keeping us so busy, but we love every single minute. Sometimes we look at each other and say, "We have THREE kids!" We still can't believe it.
